Lao Fellowship of Buddhist Organizations

Rice paddy fields in Laos

Plans are under development in Laos, approved by the government, for monks to lead environmental training and project work, along the lines already developed in Cambodia and Thailand.

The director of the Mlup Baitong, the Cambodian Buddhist environmental group, visited Laos in early 2004 and met with official Buddhist bodies and conservation agencies. He learned about Buddhist environmental activity in the Vientiane area and invited participants for the Phnom Penh conference.

At the conference the Lao Fellowship of Buddhist Organizations (LFBO) and Lao government representatives from the Department of Religious Affairs met with other members of the Asian Buddhist Network and explored ways to extend environmental work in Laos.
